James May promoted to Principal

Oxera continues to grow its senior team with the announcement that James May has been promoted to Principal.

  • James’ promotion demonstrates Oxera’s ever-growing presence in competition litigation and class actions across Europe and beyond.
  • James will be focusing on stand-alone and follow-on antitrust litigation, building on Oxera’s leading position as testifying experts for claimants and defendants.

James joined Oxera as an Analyst in 2013 after completing his Masters in Economics at University College London. He has since become a specialist in competition litigation cases in the UK.

James advises both claimants and defendants in relation to various types of competition litigation cases, including those arising from horizontal/vertical agreements and abuse of dominance. He has advised National Grid in relation to its claim against the Gas Insulated Switchgear cartel, Mastercard in its defence against a number of damages claims regarding interchange fees, and Google regarding its defence against a number of damages claims. He is also involved in a number of class actions in the UK.

Working closely with Partners Dr Avantika Chowdhury, Robin Noble and Joseph Bell, James will be a key senior member of Oxera’s Competition team, helping to further expand our antitrust and litigation practice across Europe and beyond.

Commenting on his promotion, James said that he is ‘delighted to be joining Oxera’s senior team’ and ‘looks forward to working on complex competition litigation cases with teams based throughout Oxera’s locations’.
