Laura Castrillo Zamora : Senior Consultant

Laura is a member of Oxera’s Competition team. She has over eight year´s experience in applying econometric and other quantitative methods to competition policy issues and advising clients on horizontal agreements, cartels, vertical restrictions, impact self-assesments, bid rigging, quantifying antitrust damages, market definition and cases of abuse of dominance.

Specifically, her experience focused on the preparation of economic expert reports in the context of investigations by competition authorities and in private litigation calculating follow-on damages in cartel cases. She has broad sectorial experience, with a special focus on the retail distribution, insurance, automative, energy, oil operators and infrastructure markets, among others. Laura has also provided expert witness testimony in damages cases before Spanish courts.

Before joining Oxera, Laura worked as a Senior Manager in the Competiton Economics team at KPMG. Previously, Laura worked in the USA for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as Economic Consultant, and as Research Assistant in the microeconomic analysis division of the Bank of Spain.

  • Advising a major oil operator in Spain on the follow-on damages claim proceeding arising from the anticompetitive practices identified in the CNMC’s decision involving Repsol, Cepsa, and BP (2021–)

  • Advice to two of the leading manufacturers of low- and medium-voltage cables in their economic defence against claims for damages from electricity distributors or industrials companies arising from the LV/MV Cables cartel (2022–)

  • Advice to a company in the insurance sector in the context of a self-assessment of potential risks of non-compliance with competition regulations (2022–)

  • Acting as an economic expert in market definition and analysis of dominance in the digital portals for the housing advertisements market for a leading real estate portal in Spain (2024–)

  • Advice to several companies in the industrial and technological sector in the rebuttal of the Spanish Competition Authority’s decision in the Railway Safety and Communications case before the High Court for alleged bid-rigging in public tenders (2022–24)
