Jostein Kristensen and Sahar Shamsi to present at Utility Week Energy Summit 2018

Oxera’s Energy practice leads, Jostein Kristensen (Partner) and Sahar Shamsi (Principal), will be participating in Utility Week’s 2018 Energy Summit.

Sahar will be presenting alongside Alex Chisholm, Permanent Secretary for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and Dermot Nolan, Chief Executive of Ofgem, in the first session of the day, which will address the delivery of flexible and integrated energy systems. Sahar will explore: how flexible the regulatory regime should be to accommodate the development of energy networks; the regulatory implications of integrated and whole-system views; the direction of travel for RIIO-2; and the evolving role and frameworks of regulation.

In the afternoon, Jostein will take part in a panel session to discuss the re-engagement of customers in the new energy world. He will speak alongside senior representatives from Octopus Energy, Shell, Citizens Advice and Npower. In particular, following Ofgem’s recent consultation on the introduction of the default tariff cap in energy, Jostein will be exploring the implementation of the price cap, and how the phasing out of the standard variable tariff will impact on suppliers and customers.

Oxera’s Energy practice provides trusted advisers to regulators, utilities, oil and gas producers, investors and trading companies on a wide range of regulatory, competition and market-design matters. Our energy experts have worked for UK and European regulatory authorities and for clients subject to investigation by national regulatory and competition authorities.

We have extensive knowledge of the European energy industry and a well-developed understanding of the commercial and regulatory frameworks within which regulators and energy companies operate. Our consulting activities cover energy from generation to distribution and supply, and our work has necessarily evolved as market structures have changed with liberalisation, market integration and wider macroeconomic developments.

Both Jostein and Sahar were recently named in Who’s Who Legal: Energy—a guide to the world’s leading energy lawyers and consulting experts.
