Sir Philip Lowe joins Oxera’s Board

Philip will work alongside Oxera’s Chair, Dr Luis Correia da Silva, to support the Board’s ambition to continue to expand Oxera’s market presence, and in particular the firm’s specialisms in climate, energy and competition policy.

After joining the European Commission in the early 1970s where he was Chef de Cabinet and Director in the fields of regional development, agriculture, transport and administration, he went on to become Director-General for Development in 1997. From September 2002 to February 2010, he was Director-General for Competition and, from then until January 2014, Director-General for Energy. From 2013 to 2016, Philip served as a non-executive Board Member of the UK Competition and Markets Authority.

He has been Chair of the EU Competition Law and Policy workshop at the European University Institute since 2010, and Executive Chair of the World Energy Council’s Energy Trilemma initiative since 2016.

Philip says: ‘I am delighted to be joining Oxera’s board to offer insights and direction within the senior leadership team’s discussions and decisions, particularly by drawing on my experience of working for the European Commission. I’m looking forward to taking on this key role in supporting Oxera’s ambition to demonstrate how economics offers answers to global challenges faced by businesses and policymakers.’

Dr Luis Correia da Silva says: ‘Sir Philip’s broad experience and exceptional profile at the highest levels of policy, business, government and institutions coupled with his alignment to Oxera’s values and ambitions make him a fantastic addition to our Board. He is ideally placed to bring a strong European dimension to our discussions, and I’m very excited to be working with him to drive forward Oxera’s strategy.’
