Oxera economists, Dr Avantika Chowdhury and Dr Alexander Gaigl, have contributed to a much-needed publication on the application of competition law and patent law in the pharmaceutical sector. Edited by former judge Gabriella Muscolo, and Giovanni Pitruzzella of the Italian Competition Authority, the collection provides a comprehensive coverage of the economic and legal debates relating to the international application of these laws in this sector. Avantika and Alex’s paper on the economic principles of competition and patent law and the scope for conflict and alignment between them provides the foundation for the detailed discussion of specific cases in the volume.
