Dr Helen Jenkins, Oxera Managing Director, has been nominated as one of the five leading competition economists in the world. Helen has 20 years of professional experience in applying economic principles to issues of strategic importance for businesses, predominantly in the context of litigation and merger investigations. Her experience spans a wide range of sectors, including communications and media, financial services, retailing and energy, and jurisdictions such as the USA, UK, Europe, Australia and the Middle East.
In addition to Helen’s individual nomination, a number of cases that Oxera has been involved in have been shortlisted for Matter of the Year awards. The New Zealand v Air Cargo cartel has been shortlisted for GCR’s Behavioural Matter of the Year Award – Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa. Oxera Director, Dr Gunnar Niels, represented New Zealand’s Commerce Commission on this case, which was also noted in Oxera’s listing in ‘The Economics 20’ annual survey.
Oxera also worked as part of the legal team on Acergy/ Subsea 7, a case nominated for GCR’s Merger Control Matter of the Year Award, and on Imperial Tobacco v Office of Fair Trading, which is shortlisted for GCR’s Matter of the Year Award. These cases were cited in Oxera’s listing in ‘The Economics 20’ annual survey, along with other key experiences, such as multiple aviation state aid cases for Ryanair, Belgacom’s defence of alleged abuse of dominance and damages before the Belgian courts, Mars’ defence against litigation by Nestlé, and Électricité de France’s state aid case before the European Commission. Beyond these notable cases Oxera was ranked favourably for the number of internal promotions that were made in 2011 within the Competition team, underlining Oxera’s ongoing investment in its staff as part of our continued growth.
