Great Britain’s railway is at a critical juncture, facing unprecedented pressures arising from changing travel patterns, ageing infrastructure, and ongoing financial strain. The UK government has proposed to establish Great British Railways, a new publicly owned company that will oversee and operate both the infrastructure and operations of rail across Great Britain.
