Oxera grows senior economist team with three new promotions to Principal grade

We are delighted to announce promotions of three Senior Consultants to Principal grade, with immediate effect.

In recognition of their considerable success in Oxera’s Transport and Antitrust practices, Oxera has promoted three Senior Consultants to the Principal grade: Alexander Gaigl, Michele Granatstein and Matthew Shepherd.

Dr Alex Gaigl joined Oxera in 2011. After several years working from the Oxford and London offices, in 2018 he moved to join our team in Berlin. A native German, Alex has been working on competition and litigation cases across many jurisdictions and industries, including in the role as appointed expert.

Enno Eilts, Partner and Head of the Berlin office, stated:
‘We welcome Alex to his new role as Principal. Alex has built strong relations with some of our clients and law firms, and will continue to play a key role in delivering top-quality competition economics advice.’

An expert in the economics of regulation and competition, particularly in the aviation sector, Michele Granatstein has advised a number of airports, regulators, investors and governments worldwide, including Gatwick Airport and Brussels Airport in Europe, and the Jamaican Civil Aviation Authority. She is also Oxera’s representative on the ACI Europe (airports trade association) Economics Committee, and in 2017 undertook a major assessment of competition between European airports, on behalf of ACI Europe.

Matt Shepherd specialises in demand forecasting, economic impact assessment, litigation, and policy advice in the context of new infrastructure development. He is leading Oxera’s advice on the development of a new rail freight line in Europe, and has recently applied his expertise in data visualisation to the development of a new management reporting system for a major public transport operator. He is a member of the UITP’s Transport Economics Commission.

Andrew Meaney, Partner, Partner and Head of the Transport practice, said:

‘I congratulate Michele and Matthew on their promotions. They both bring their vast experience and understanding of the application of economics in a commercial environment. Their promotions reflect the strength of Oxera’s transport and new infrastructure offerings, and I look forward to seeing them lead and develop their areas of expertise in the coming years.’
