Oxera reached its 25th anniversary in 2007 ... a perfect opportunity to celebrate!
In 1982, Oxera began life at the early stages of what was to be a major transformation of the UK's economic landscape.
From our early days and close affiliation with Oxford University, to working with international governments, regulators and major companies, Oxera has been securely at the forefront of developments in company strategy and government policy.

Over the years, we have expanded and thrived by maintaining our individuality and autonomy, while never losing sight of our strong tradition of quality and innovation.
This anniversary was an opportunity to recognise and reflect upon the history of Oxera, to thank our staff, partners, clients and all those who have contributed to our success, and to look ahead to the challenges of the next 25 years.
We hope you will enjoy reading the articles in a series marking this anniversary which we published in Agenda—our monthly electronic publication.
- In '25 years on: markets transformed and the European ethos', Professor Dieter Helm, Oxera founder, defines the pivotal ideologies of the period and looks ahead to the next 25 years.
- While 'No more Mr Nice Guy: 25 years of reforming competition and regulation rules' is an idiosyncratic view of the processes of reform in competition law and regulatory enforcement by Fod Barnes, Oxera Principal.
- And in 'The power of ideas: the Commissioner and the influence of defunct economists', Dr Gunnar Niels, Oxera Director, discusses new developments in European competition policy and an old insight by John Maynard Keynes, concluding that, eventually, sound economic ideas will prevail, even in the reform of Article 82 of the EC Treaty.
- The final article of the series, '25 years in regulation: a revolution in pipes, cables and tracks', sees Derek Holt, Oxera Principal, take a look back at the key events and ideas that have shaped today's regulatory landscape and consider what might lie ahead.
